So many of us spend our time in a state of anxiety from outside influences such as school, work, family, relationships, other obligations. It is essential to take a step back and spend some time in nature to allow yourself to hear and feel what is in your vortex or intuition.
At first, the concept of grounding or Earthing sounds totally out there, but as you start to do some digging and gain a better understanding of the process and why it works, it begins to make logical sense reasonably quickly. When you are grounding yourself, it means you are taking time in nature but with your shoes off. Our rubber-soled shoes are a barrier that keeps us from experiencing the benefits of being connected to the Earth's surface. The Earth is constantly emanating energy, and that energy is all around us. The idea is that we can tap into that energy by grounding ourselves in nature and making contact with our feet in the grass, dirt, mud, sand & water. Imagine a time you were at the beach taking in the Vitamin D from the sun, running barefoot across the beach, and spending time in the water. How did that experience make you feel? If the answer was fantastic, then it's not a far stretch to think you can experience that feeling any time you want by stepping outside in your yard and connecting with your environment.
I am not a scientist, but the studies are out there if you go searching around for the benefits of grounding. Even if this is a placebo effect, does it really matter? How much is your improved health and well-being worth to you? Is a few minutes a day, barefoot in the grass, really going to interrupt your schedule? It is believed that by grounding in nature, you can improve your immune systems, chronic pain, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, insomnia, & cardiovascular disease.
Let's look at this a different way. By taking a few minutes a day to unplug from our daily lives, jobs, cell phones, obligations, and other interruptions, you are making yourself a priority and setting boundaries with others. Stay consistent in showing up for yourself by taking time to listen to your thoughts and feelings. You are automatically going to see improvements in your quality of life and relationships!
Is grounding worth it? I know I never feel better than when I take time away from the mundane and connect with myself through nature.
There is clarity and a sense of calm that comes from giving myself permission to be authentically me!
